Meet our creator Laurie Story Vela!

Laurie Story Vela

So many ways to sing, read and play!

Our Leaping Literacy Librarian, Laurie Story Vela, M.A. is an Author/Illustrator and BookTelling Performer with Laurie's Stories. Her hundreds of LaurieStorEBooks and songs celebrate reading, English language, imagination, word play, and creativity for families, children and youth.

Laurie's work began at UC Davis with an undergaraduate communications study & a graduate program in education; her M.A. is in education and curriculum design. Laurie's Stories were initially founded on a blend of phonics, whole language & 2nd language acquisition. Laurie Story has been hailed as the Mother Goose Rapper.

Laurie Story is a singer and prolific songwriter. She has penned and produced hundreds of folk songs for children and families found in the Leaping Literacy Library.

Laurie Story's latest integration celebrations are ETV web shows which include her books and songs as well as other FUNdamental literacy explorations with Feature Creature Teachers, Living Green, Heart Smart tools and more! @ famlit.tv

The word play of Laurie's Stories is rooted in literature providing a fun reading experience rich in text and picture. The pictures and the voice of the stories are from a kid's point of view. The rhyme and alliteration of Laurie's Stories are what kids refer to as "tongue twisters" or "Mother Goose Rap". Laurie's Stories are designed to build reading and spelling fluency, providing bridges between emergent reader and chapter books. Our LaurieStorEBooks are fully illustrated & narrated by Laurie Story. They are available in multiple formats including pdf, power point, audio and video. In keeping with our support of building reading fluency, the vocabulary in each book is listed in the back often accompanied by some of our character language lessons like those here online:
